College Convos: Zoe Considine

We've known Zoe and her amazing family for so many years, since both of us began being a part of the performing world. We only thought it'd be right to start off our series of #collegeconvos with Berklee College of Music's Zoe Considine. Her kickass voice has brought her to many stages including Broadway's Godspell and A Christmas Story. She wanted to share some of her tips and tricks regarding college life, the admissions process, and what it's like to attend one of the top music universities, and we are so grateful to have her advice.

How do you know the Ya Sisters?

I know the Ya Sisters from Broadway and having the same vocal coach!

What do YA study at college/where do YA go?

I go to Berklee College of Music and am currently studying music theory and will take more classes as soon as I declare my major as Pro Music, Songwriting, Music Business with a concentration in Vocal Performance.

What do you want to be when you "grow up" and is that relevant to what you are studying now?

I hopefully want to be a recording artist and performer when I grow up, and yes.

How long have you been involved in music? What types of music and performing do you do?

I have been involved in music my entire life, I started singing when I was five years old. I sing pop/rock, contemporary, and country music.

Are there opportunities at school to practice and be involved in music with other students? If so, what have you been a part of?/What does Berklee offer you as a student and artist?

I most recently performed at a Signature Series showcase at Berklee, The Music of Dolly Parton in the Berklee Performance Center. Berklee is allowing me many opportunities in the Music Industry, I am taking classes and performing to help me grow as both a student and artist. It’s a great community to meet and work with other musicians, producers, and so much more.

What are the teachers like?

The teachers are great and help a lot in the hard process of learning the basics of music theory.

What is your favorite class and why?

My favorite class right now is the Music of John Lennon, it’s all about his career and life and analyzing the many songs he wrote in his career.

Are your classes large or small?

It depends on the class, it can vary from small to large.

How do you like living in Boston?

I love living in Boston, everything is right here because it’s a city and there’s so many things to do and see.

What would you wish you had known about Berklee while making your decision for what school to attend? What made you choose Berklee?

I knew everything about Berklee because I did a summer program and I knew it was the perfect school for me.

Who was the most helpful to you when applying to college?

My mom, and my friend Laura who helped me with college applications and writing my essay.

What has been your favorite Berklee College moment?

So far, it has been being able to perform, I just had the most amazing experience in the Dolly Parton Showcase, as well as The Musical Theater Club gala my first semester here!
